Elected Officials Share Personal, Authentic Perspective Using Social Media

As part of our preparation for the “Harnessing New Social Media Trends in the Texas Special Session & Beyond” webinar, the IO team contacted the most active legislators on social media to learn how they are using various social media channels. Through this process we learned that a large portion of legislators operate their own social media profiles, that many engage with constituents in private messages on the various platforms to have political discussions, and that legislators have even changed the minds of their constituents or had their own minds changed through social media conversations. This demonstrates the power of social media to affect public policy.
